Nothing can unsettle us like a bad fall.  Whether we fall because of carelessness, weather conditions, or the sudden giving out of a body part, falling grabs our attention and suggests we develop a relationship with the circumstances sooner rather than later.  As with fear, ignoring the emotions surrounding a sudden fall ensures they will persist.  Tapping for the pain, shock, and beliefs that follow a fall helps us to tune into our body’s wisdom as it teaches us how to relate to ourselves in more loving and positive ways.

Sometimes it seems that just as we develop a comfortable groove, our world is turned upside down and we must learn new skills if we are to live with confidence and satisfaction.  While it is a refrain we often would rather not hear, being alive means living with change.   Because of life’s inevitable changeability, the happiest and most successful people are those who have learned the art of adaptation.  This is a formidable skill to learn, but once we have mastered it, we find life’s chiaroscuro changes much easier to embrace.  Our adaptability means we tackle with confidence work situations that require we train in unfamiliar areas; adaptability also means we bring grace and optimism to family demands that ask us to step beyond our current comfort zones.  For some very rare people, change is always exhilarating, but for most of us change, especially unexpected change, unearths past experiences of perceived failure that can trigger our insecurities and activate a learned helplessness response we thought we’d outgrown long ago.  When change knocks us off centre, Tapping for the space to cultivate trust in our creative problem solving abilities will help us to move forward with ease.

Sunday, October 11, 2015, marks Thanksgiving Celebrations for many Canadians.  This year, with books and films like This Changes Everything ( see http://www.naomiklein.org/main) contributing to positive, community approaches to climate crises, supporting and celebrating our local organic food movement is more important than ever before.  When we buy from our local organic farmers and regional organic food growers, every meal we eat has the power to help restore the integrity of our physical geography as it strengthens individual health and builds community.  When I touch upon the relevance of local food systems to our current state of climate emergency, I’m sometimes met with belligerence born of fear.   “Nothing can be done,” often accompanies the outright refusal to shift from eating addictive, health sapping convenience foods because of very real time constrictions, perceived cost prohibitions, and the hopelessness and terror we feel when we think too much about super storms and the other signs of global warming.  Although the trauma of climate change is so potentially devastating that we often do all that we can to deny it or at least temporarily forget it, Tapping can help us calm our climate-change fears, neutralize our addiction cravings, and move forward to strengthen our community ties.

We hear a great deal about the toll Post Traumatic Stress takes on human well being and very little about how traumatizing experiences can lead to positive shifts in perspective and habit.  Perhaps because of the innate human qualities of hope and resilience, a whole field of science is investigating if it is possible to develop positive life skills in the wake of serious trauma.  More than a decade of research is affirming that even after the most horrific events people do indeed develop strengths because of the trauma they have endured.  Because Tapping supports our desire to grow beyond negative-event constrictions and because EFT builds resilience after such events by emphasizing strengths, it is not surprising that this remarkable tool can help to support Post Traumatic Growth (PTG).
