During this American Thanksgiving season most of our media outlets are saturated with Black Friday ads that pull us away from our deep desire to be positive agents of change.   One remarkable exception is Yes! Magazine.  This reader-supported publication’s diverse stories root us in the positive actions people are taking to address specific crises in our  individual communities.  The current issue of Yes! – its 20th anniversary edition – is exceptional in its exploration of life affirming citizen actions in each of the 50 states.  Stories describing our capacity to work together for change add to our store of resilience by enlarging our capacity for hope and galvanizing our desire to participate in the activism that interweaves diverse groups of people committed to social justice and environmental stewardship.

To be delighted,  informed, and inspired, take a moment to visit the Yes! Magazine website at http://www.yesmagazine.org/.  More radically, become a member of its growing, positive-change family.  One of our greatest challenges in this post-election period is resisting a pervasive sense of helplessness and isolation.  Yes! Magazine stories remind us of the strength and ingenuity we have when we work together.  Joining with others to work toward our goals helps us to remain effective positive-change agents, even in the face of continuous assaults on our democratic institutions and processes.

With wishes for a meaningful Thanksgiving Season

Leonard Cohen is dead.  Long live Leonard Cohen.

Letting go of a person whose words and music have touched us at the deepest  soul level is one of the most difficult tasks human beings face.  Love, irony, beauty, self deception, horror, and . . . , always . . . , truth . . . , these themes place Leonard Cohen’s work in the highest order of the arts.  As poet, novelist, singer, songwriter, musician, monk, and of course – ladies’ man –  (I smile at his ironies as i write this last), for more than five decades he wooed us to the gates of enlightenment with his earthy wisdom, his “golden voice,” and his unshakable compassion for our wayward ways.

Leonard Cohen is dead.  Long live Leonard Cohen.

With polarizing influences screeching in our ears like nails on a blackboard, it is easy to be caught up in the drama and forget to turn off our devices and sit in silence as we invite the natural rhythms of the world to bring us back to centre.  One of the most effective techniques for building resilience in the long term and self regulating in the moment is to step outside onto a grassy patch, focus on a tree, and simply offer our appreciation for its being present to us.  Resilience and self regulation are the secret to joyful longevity, loving and respectful relationships, and successful, sustainable business enterprises.  Tapping to clear all resistance to daily resilience and self regulation practices helps us to develop nourishing self-care practices that ensure positive experiences in the moment and positive experiences over time.
