Sometimes, regardless of our efforts to resolve conflict lovingly and responsibly, we are unable to reach a peaceful resolution with the person or persons involved.  For those of us who have been schooled in homes where conflict is to be avoided at all cost, we run the risk of swallowing our emotions to avoid triggering responses we fear we will not be able to handle.  When we do so, we open the doors to physical illness because unexpressed emotions can and do play havoc in the bodymind system.  This is especially challenging when we engage with people who have not yet learned to accept their share of responsibility in the conflict or when we feel we must take care of others at the expense of our own emotional and physical health.  Tapping is particularly helpful in such situations, since it allows us to work through our part in the challenges while creating the space for others to step forward to do the same; in short, Tapping helps us to create healthy boundaries that honour others’ needs as well as our own.

Sunday, October 11, 2015, marks Thanksgiving Celebrations for many Canadians.  This year, with books and films like This Changes Everything ( see http://www.naomiklein.org/main) contributing to positive, community approaches to climate crises, supporting and celebrating our local organic food movement is more important than ever before.  When we buy from our local organic farmers and regional organic food growers, every meal we eat has the power to help restore the integrity of our physical geography as it strengthens individual health and builds community.  When I touch upon the relevance of local food systems to our current state of climate emergency, I’m sometimes met with belligerence born of fear.   “Nothing can be done,” often accompanies the outright refusal to shift from eating addictive, health sapping convenience foods because of very real time constrictions, perceived cost prohibitions, and the hopelessness and terror we feel when we think too much about super storms and the other signs of global warming.  Although the trauma of climate change is so potentially devastating that we often do all that we can to deny it or at least temporarily forget it, Tapping can help us calm our climate-change fears, neutralize our addiction cravings, and move forward to strengthen our community ties.

This Monday, September 21, people in every country in the world are gathering to celebrate the possibility of world peace on the International Day of Peace.  With us since 2001, you can learn more about this inspirational movement and its founder, Jeremy Gilley, at http://www.peaceoneday.org/.  Groups of all descriptions are celebrating a world at peace with community events, religious services, and school programs.  A response to the international peace movement very close to my heart because it reflects the peaceful intentions of my long-time, world-wide circle dancing tribe can be seen on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN51HpIa2ek .  Watching this video brings serenity to the heart and optimism to the soul.  Like circle dancing, tapping helps us to bring peace to all we do.

When Hate Just Won’t Go Away

People who use tapping regularly are often pleasantly surprised by a growing sense of equanimity and peace.  Petty annoyances disappear, strong negative reactions dissipate, and flashes of anger or fear over crossed boundaries diminish.  Gary Craig’s name for tapping, Emotional Freedom Techniques, says it all.  Daily practice that goes deep to core issues really does free us from debilitating negative emotions.  Sometimes, however, the process of freeing ourselves from such emotions takes time, patience, great detective work, and intuitive leaps to uncover the core issues associated with these emotions.
